"SLIP" light comes on????

I have an 03 350Z. I just replaced my rear tires for some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires. I went with a 245/45/17. Ever since I had those installed I keep getting the "SLIP" light come on along with loss of power when accelerating. Did I choose the rong tire dimensions???

I had this problem with those tires. My problem was when I went around corners like coming off a highway ramp. After about 1000 miles the problem went away though. Good luck...

they may need to be broken in. The loss of power caused by the TCS system kicking in sucks. Try turning off the TCS and see how the tires do without the restraints. My new tires are just reaching their break in point and it feels much better then when they were brand new, so hopefully your traction probs are just the protective film on the tires wearing off.

Mozzer,

It looks like you should be OK with the 245/45/17 based on the original 235/50/17 stock tire. The difference between the front and rear is now less than 1% so the "slip" your are getting may be due to the newness of the tire verses your broken in front set. Next time just get all four new.

Cheers

I miss that you only replaced two of the tires, yeah ZGone is right, the light should go off after the tires break in. right now you are most likely getting major traction difference between the front and back causing the light to come on.

after you put 1,000mi on it and the light doesn't go off then take her in.

Did the slip light finally shut off after 1000 miles. I just bought an 2004 350 Z and the dealer put new brakes and back tires the light still comes on not as much but its scary on the freeway and you lose power. Also i have a 6 CD changer stero stock and when i use the radio the speakers and sounds are great i use the cd player and the sound goes in and out and then all the way out like a short i cleaned the lens with cd cleaner nothing? Can one suggest any thing.

The slip is from the TCS or VDC, that's normal. The CD Player issue is exactly what you were thinking it was, a tired reader inside the CD player. Most likely gonna have to replace it.

One of the 1st things I do is turn off the TCS everytime before I take off. I have a set of the chrome factory 07 18in rims on my 03 & even with the TCS turned on the slip light rarely comes on at all. It came on more frequent with the 03 stock wheels & tires. My suggestion is just turn it off when you start your car & be done.

yea lol. i did that with my first z and ended up in a tree... literally. up-in-a-tree.
just be careful in the rain, especially if its your second day after stillen sc and tune, and 110 around a turn

anyhow, your problemo should go away after breakin in the tires or if you want to speed up the process a bit, lite them biches up lol

I'm having the same problem with the "SLIP" light coming on. It turns on when I'm driving normal going straight, especially on the freeway. I had the stock 17" rims on my '03 Z and had replaced it with 20" all the way around, I've prolly put about 3000 miles on it ever since the change. Do I need to do anything with the sensor? Will it just go away?

The "SLIP" light has nothing to do with traction difference of new tires... and to think that brand new tires need to be worn down to get proper operation of your car is absurd (sorry if anyone is offended, but think about it). You didn't havethe problem when you had your car with the OEM Potenza tires (even when brand new), did you? It was only after you changed your back tires to a different manufacturer (Gooodyear). Even though you went with the same size tire by the numbers 245/45/17 as you had before, if you take a brand nes Potenza and a brand new Goodyear and measure the circumfrence of the tire, you will find a difference in size. THAT is your problem... the faster you go, the greater the difference in revolutions between front and back tires. My suggestion would be to take your tires back to where you got them installed (they are the tire people they are supposed to know these things, a reputable shop will make it right and make your car safe). Now, you can either get 2 more Potenzas for the back, 2 more Goodyears for the front, OR... go down to a 40 series tire on the back in the Goodyear (MIGHT work).
How do I know this? I had 225/45/18 (front) and 245/45/18 (rear) potenzas all the way around. I drive like hell all the time... never had any issues. Installed 2 Esenza (made by Goodyear) 245/45/18's on back and had the same issue as you're having. I went back to the tire shop after about 2000 miles and had them put Potenzas on and when they did, they measured the tires circumfrence; the difference? a whopping 12 inch difference!!!. So my back tires were going faster than my front tires causing the wheel speed sensors (which are designed to measure slip/ when 1 wheel is spinning faster than another) to trip. I went back to Potenza's... Problem gone. Since then, I have gone to my Nismo rims and have the 245/45/18's that were on the back, now on the front and am running 275/40/18 Goodyear Eagle F1's on back... and NO problem. Because the sidewall height is a percentage of the tire width, I wanted as close to the same circumfrence as possible... I power around corners, on ramps, anything I want to and the car is solid. You shouldnt have to override your safety equipment to get the desired experience. Sorry for such a long answer but I hope this helps.
