okay, so so far this is what it looks out there for competition against the 370Z
an Evo that weighs much more then it, has less power and is slower then the last Evo. An STi that is even slower then the new Evo and is about as heavy. So far the only car out there that can be a threat in its class is the Cam, and that's if chevy does give it 400hp-course it actually DOES WEIGH about 3,900lb that much is confirmed, so i doubt it wil be that fast.
so far chevy has only released full specs on the V6 version which has 300hp and hits 60 in a paltry 6.3 or seconds due to its weight.
all in all I'd say things are looking good for the 370Z.

The styling looks very similar to current mustangs but with less fender flare. Add in an extra 15 hp and boooooring. Hopefully they will have a 400hp engine option in 2011. I had heard if they were going to offer that engine, it'd be in the second production year after the remodel.

LOL - I saw this on the speed channel last night waited til the actual "revealing" and I wasnt impressed. only good thing I heard was the engine can take up to 500hp before any "serious" mods have to be done

Sounds like maybe they used the GT500 engine, just NA.

Ah yes, Ford fails to deliver once again!
Hopefully the bailout falls through and they just go belly up.

considering they each weigh close to 3,500lbs and can't hit 60 in under 5 seconds, (most mags have them at 5.1 to 5.3) I doubt that an y minor mods will help them much.
they like you said will have to increse boost which is costly and if you are doing that your aim is to generate a lot more power to start with so it's going to be faster then a 370Z or possibly a vette anyway.
in stock form though I doubt it will get be able to run with the 370 and like i said, it will take more then a CAI and echaust to run with the Z which honestly, is the majority of most mods out there.
the two modd'd Evo Xs that I have seen only had exhaust and intake which did very little for them.
plus, this new engine in the Z is suppose to be easier to mod then any VQ before it with bigger gains.
as far as stock Vs stock goes though, i'd say the 370Z will be the one to beat.
plus, the STi looks like a rental car and the Evo X looks okay, but not as sexy as the new Z which, love it or hate it, has much more styling to it then a Evo.

As much as I hate anything the Big 3 makes, the auto industry accounts for 10% of GDP... if any of them go belly up, we'll all be affected.

They may not be super fast, but being that they're both awd, they're a lot easier to launch outta the hole and that'll definitely give em the advantage..

well we weren't talking looks
The bang for the EVO is reflashing the ECU and upping the boost. An EVO X with an ECU reflash and drop in filter can be tuned to about 280/280 WHP/TQ which with drivetrain loss is about 350/350 at the engine that will eat up the 370Z with those torque numbers and all wheel drive, and if they add an exhaust and reflash again you will probably get another 20 or 30, I highly doubt a 370Z will get near that specially in torque.
it is just much easier to mod a boosted car

Yeah this is true, millions of greedy union workers begging for work...that would be funny...considering they are partially responsible for all of this.

Yup...and that is, not totally, but a large part of why they are in this mess. I was talking to a co-worker, and her aunt was a factory worker..but not auto related, some other manufacturing...she was making $37/hr for sweeping the floor!!!
The big 3 are the same way, bloated salaries, benefits, and they strike at the drop of a hat...it's no wonder they are hurting.

they need to go through bankruptcy and restructure, the airlines have had to do it and only the strong survive, they had some sick pay scales as well for union employees

I'm not picking on this, but how would anyone really know that? I hope it's true, but I doubt it. For a 3.7 liter NA to put out 332HP...that's a lot already. I think 300whp should be attainable now without much work like before but everyone has to wait and see.
And yes, if GM tanks...were all screwed. The unemployment rate is estimated to hit 10 or 11%. That means that just people who collect unemployment checks. There are a lot of people who just haven't filed for it and are sitting around. That's troublesome....

It wont happen, they want the bailout to make it easier for them and becuase the government is in a bailout mode trying to give away what they haven't already before Bush takes off, they, and the media, are just trying to scare everyone.
If they are forced to file for bankruptcy they can restructure and actually have some power to get concessions from the unions, renegotiate contracts with suppliers........, some may lose their jobs but it wont be everyone related to GM
Besides most of their employees, direct and subcontract, probably live outside the US anyway in Mexico, Canada, China....... I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota/Honda/Nissan employ more people in the US in their plants and headquarters than GM
