Stock for stock....an 03 to 06 Z will give a head to head fight. It's a drivers race, and 2007 would kill it.
Not sure where you are receiving your information from, but a stock 2001 Cobra is a low-mid 13 second 1/4 mile car with a capable driver.

yeap ... 01 cobras are mid 13s ... fast but poorly made..ive seen plently throw a rod because their bottom ends are not forgets like the 03-04 cobra ..... the 03-04 cobra has so much potential its crazy... all you need is intake exhaust and pulleys and your pushing 500-600 hp easy.. thats a fact.. that motor can take vast amounts of power.. and the t-56 tranny will have no problems either 03-04 cobra are high 12s stock.. so lets just put it this way.. in the story it wasn't a 03-04 cobra..

They did fix them in 2001. But the 99 cobra's had a recall due to not making the power they claimed to make.

it was prolly a 01 cobra. they are rated at 320hp and never actually put it out. a 350 could beat them no prob. those definitely aren't supercharged. the 03-04 cobras are though.

actually it was the 99 cobra that had a hard time putting the advertised HP. but almost all the 99 were recalled and got the fix. The 2001 cobra did make all it's advertised hp. They average 275-285 rwhp bone stock. Ford made sure of it...thats why there were no 2000 cobras made other than the cobra R. Not sure why some of you are saying that a stock 350 could beat a 01 cobra with no problems? Sure anything can happen on the street. and driving skill will make up for a slower car.

Just throwing this out there...I'm not disagreeing with you. It sounds like you know mustangs pretty well and from the post count it looks like you joined to argue this cause you know a good amount. I'm guessing you might even own a GT or something like that. But coming down equal playing level I think its safe to say that the Cobra's did have issues early on, Ford did fix most of the issues but they stopped production on them to revamp them and bring out a monster of a car in 03 and 04. It attracted a whole different market.

The numbers you posted are book numbers and both foreign and domestic, those never work. You wanna talk mustangs I have a friend with an 03 cobra who on street tire put down a 12.9 at the track with the only mod being a shift knob lol. I believe if you were to go by magazines they post up numbers of like 13.4 or 13.3. Guys on here consistently hit 13.8 or 13.9 at traps of 101-102. Even now and days if you pick up a R&T they have the 03 Z down at 13.9, seems like their 14.1 was off. I guess my point should have been that 99 & 01 cobra's were really were never really sought after as much as other mustangs have been and now are.
